The former chief of Ofsted has returned to school leadership after nearly a decade.
Sir Michael Wilshaw has taken up the post of interim executive principal at JFS – a large Jewish mixed comprehensive school in Kenton.
Sir Michael, who was the chief inspector of schools from 2012 to 2016, will lead the school for the remainder of the term after the former head teacher Rachel Fink stepped down on May 31.
In a letter to parents, Andrew Moss, chair of Governors at JFS, said Sir Michael will be supported by Dame Joan McVittie, a former London headteacher, safeguarding expert and a senior Ofsted inspector.
According to the Jewish Chronicle, the school was inspected by Ofsted last month and a report is due to be published soon.
Mr Moss said: "We acknowledge the service Mrs Fink has given to the school and the enormity of the challenges presented during the course of the Covid pandemic. We wish her every success in the future."
He added: "We appreciate that changes of this nature cause concern.
"We have full confidence in this team along with the entire staff body to deliver the educational priorities and to maintain the Jewish ethos of the school."
Mr Moss said governors will outline plans to recruit a permanent successor in due course.
Sir Michael was executive principal of Mossbourne Community Academy in Hackney in London before being appointed as Ofsted’s chief inspector in 2012.
