People without tickets have been urged to avoid Wembley during upcoming Euro 2020 matches, with crowds set to increase to up to 60,000.
Transport for London (TfL) explained the area around Wembley Park Station, Wembley Central Station, and Wembley Stadium Station will be busier than usual tomorrow (June 29) when England take on Germany in front of 45,000 fans.
The permitted capacity is scheduled to jump to 60,000 for the tournament’s semi-finals on July 6 and 7, as well as the final on July 11, and there are similar warnings in place for these dates.
TfL added the Bakerloo, Jubilee, Metropolitan, and Overground lines could be busier on these dates and, with Covid-19 restrictions still in place, fans going to the games are advised to leave plenty of time for travel.
London Underground managing director Andy Lord said: “A huge amount of work has been put in to make sure that journeys can be completed safely, and our staff will be on hand in stations to help customers.
“We urge fans to be patient as it may take longer than usual to access stations after the games. Customers must please wear a face covering over their nose and mouth unless they are exempt.”
Brent Council has shared similar advice for all games being held at Wembley during the summer, including strong reminders for ticketless fans not to travel to matches.
It noted there are parking restrictions around the stadium until midnight, with visitors encouraged to travel by public transport or coach.
All fans attending will also have to show proof of a negative lateral flow test or full vaccination to be let in.
The council urged residents to avoid the Covid-19 testing centre at the civic centre – less than 300 metres from Wembley Stadium – with the area likely to be busy and advised those in need of a test to utilise other sites in the borough.
