A new Aldi store has opened its doors to customers with a Team GB star cutting the all-important red ribbon alongside pupils from a primary school.
The new supermarket in Northolt Road is Aldi's first in the South Harrow area and will be run by store manager Nick Poretti, along with a team of 35 colleagues.
The popular budget store opened at 8am on October 21 with badminton star Christopher Langridge invited to the opening ceremony.
Mr Langridge, who was a bronze medallist in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, was joined by pupils from St George's Catholic Primary School.
The Olympic star gave away complimentary bags of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s famous Super 6 range to the first 30 customers in the queue, before delivering an assembly for pupils at St George’s as part of the supermarket’s initiative, Get Set to Eat Fresh.
The pupils were invited to win a £20 gift voucher to spend at the new store by creating a poster to show what healthy eating means to them. Sarah Kugaswaran was crowned the winner.
Mr Langridge said: "I’ve had a fantastic time opening the new Aldi this morning. It was an honour to officially open the store and welcome customers inside for the first time.
"It was great to speak with the children at St George’s Catholic Primary School about the importance of eating healthily and how it can be fun to plan and prepare meals as a family. Hopefully I’ve also managed to inspire the pupils to keep active and try different sports."
The new Aldi store in South Harrow is open from 8am until on 10pm from Monday to Saturday, with hours of 10am until 4pm on Sundays.
The store offers large chillers and freezers dedicated to fresh, British meat products, a ‘Food to Go’ section at the front of the store, and an exclusive section full of Health & Beauty products.
South Harrow customers can also take a walk down the 'Aisle of Aldi' which will have Specialbuys every Thursday and Sunday.
Store manager Nick Poretti said: "It was a wonderful morning at the opening of Aldi South Harrow. It was lovely to welcome our new customers into store, and I look forward to meeting more of the community in the coming weeks.
"I’m also thrilled that we’ve been able to support St George’s Catholic Primary School through our partnership with Team GB."
