Motorists will be prohibited from using some roads in and around Harrow at specified times to allow children to get to and from school more safely from later this month.
A notice from Harrow Council in this week’s edition of the Harrow Times details four school street schemes that will come into permanent operation from February 21.
The schemes temporarily restrict traffic in roads near schools at drop-off and pick-up times, promoting a healthier and safer environment by tackling air pollution and reducing the danger of road accidents.
The four schemes and the times when motorists will be prohibited from entering and proceeding in the streets listed are as follows:
- Sylvia Avenue, between its junctions with Colburn Avenue and Lyndon Avenue – from 8.15am to 9.15am and 2.45pm to 3.45pm, Monday to Friday.
- Ravenswood Crescent, between its junction with the northern and southern arms of Kings Road; and Drake Road, between its junctions with Kings Road and Drake Court – from 8.30am to 9.15am and 3pm to 3.45pm, Monday to Friday.
- Badminton Close, Leys’ Close, Marlborough Hill, between the north-eastern kerb-line of Harrow view and 12 metres south-west of the south-western kerb-line of Rusland Park Road, Ranmoor Close, Ranmoor Gardens and Rugby Close – from 8.30am to 9.15am and 3pm to 3.45pm, Monday to Thursday.
- Burnell Gardens and Thislecroft Gardens – from 8.15am to 9.15am and 2.30pm to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
Meanwhile, utility works are due to lead to three road closures in and around Harrow from next week.
Kings Way is due to be shut between the eastern boundary of No. 49 and the junction with Queens Walk from Monday
The work is due to be completed by Wednesday and the alternative route for vehicles will be via Barons Mead, Marlborough Hill and Queens Walk Hill and vice versa.
Part of Southdown Crescent is set to be shut from Wednesday until February 11.
The closure is due to be in place from the southern boundary of No. 2 to the northern junction with Roxeth Green Avenue.
Motorists should use Roxeth Green Avenue and the southern junction of Southdown Crescent and vice versa instead.
Kenton Gardens is set to be closed between the southern boundary of No. 2 to the junction with Kenton Road on February 11 from 10pm to 5.30am.
The work is expected to be completed by the following day and the diversion will be via Kenton Road and the western junction of Kenton Gardens and vice versa.
