A new children’s mental health hub for people in Harrow has launched online.
Young people in Harrow will be able to access the free online mental health services hosted by the Young Harrow Foundation, providing resources to support people’s emotional wellbeing.
The resources can help people find people with specific requirements, such as LGBT+ issues, domestic abuse, being a young carer, suicidal thoughts and more – offering therapy sessions, support groups and other methods.
A Hay Harrow Report study shows that 65 per cent of 6,000 young people surveyed in Harrow said they “sometimes” or “often” feel depressed or anxious.
These figures seem to peak when a young person is aged between 14-17, with nearly 30 per cent of them reporting they “often” feel nervous or anxious and nearly a fifth (24 per cent) “often” feel depressed.
Dan Burke, CEO of Young Harrow Foundation, said: “We want all young people in Harrow to have the potential to have good mental health. There is so much support on offer locally, but often it’s a challenge to know where to find it.
“Together with Harrow Council and our network of over 200 charities, we have curated these services into one place on our website, so it’s easy for young people to find and access the help they need.”
