A weight restriction is being introduced on a major flyover due to concerns about its strength.
The “safety-critical” 7.5 tonne limit will come into force on the A41 Brent Cross flyover that runs over the A406 North Circular.
The limit will come in from 12.01am on Tuesday October 11, Transport for London (TfL) said.
TfL says the weight restriction will remain in place until it can develop a long-term plan for the flyover’s future.
TfL says the flyover does “not pose any risk” to those using it but measures are being introduced to avoid further damage.
A recent assessment by the transport body found the 190 metre long flyover has a “lower weight-bearing capacity than previously assessed”.
While previous assessments had shown the flyover to be safe, a number of additional safety checks were carried out while the structure was being refurbished.
Up to £50 million is being sought by TfL from the Department for Transport to fund any repairs and other work on other major road structures in the area.
Glynn Barton, TfL's director of network management, said: "Safety is our number one priority, which is why we are moving quickly to implement this important new weight restriction to keep our road network and everyone using it safe.
“We're sorry for any disruption caused by the restriction and we will continue working on a long-term plan for the flyover's future. I'd urge everybody driving through the area to check their journeys before they travel and ensure they comply with the new weight limit."
A signed diversion will be in place for drivers of vehicles exceeding 7.5 tonnes and TfL has pledged to monitor and “manage” traffic in the area if necessary.
The Brent Cross flyover takes motorists travelling on the A41 Hendon Way directly over the A406 North Circular, either north towards Hendon or south towards Golders Green and West Hampstead.
It also provides access to the Brent Cross Interchange, which is one of the busiest junctions in north-west London, providing access to the M1 and Brent Cross Shopping Centre.
