A man who imported guns from the US into the UK has been jailed.
Darnell Matthews, of Harrow Road in Wembley, pleaded guilty to importing four firearms and one count of possession of a knife.
An investigation into the 23-year-old was launched after officers were alerted to a package connected to Matthews on May 13.
When opened, the package was found to contain a Ruger handgun loaded with five bullets.
Further firearms were later recovered including a Glock handgun loaded with 11 bullets and a loaded Sig-Sauer pistol, all linked to Matthews.
Matthews was arrested on June 27 during a planned operation and was found possessing a lock knife. He was charged and remanded into custody.
The investigation uncovered that he made transactions for the fire arms, leaving him with little option but to admit his guilt on August 25.
On Tuesday (October 18), he was sentenced at Harrow Crown Court to six years and three months in jail.
Detective Constable George Gorman said: “Matthews was intent on bringing incredibly dangerous weapons into our country, weapons which no doubt would have ended up in the hand of criminals and caused violence on our streets.”
