Several eateries and shops have raised hygiene concerns, with inspectors telling them “improvement was necessary”.
Environmental health inspectors from Harrow Council found five places rated just 2/5 in one month.
This includes Valampuri Ltd t/a A1 Cash & Carry on Northolt Road, which was inspected on August 8.
The shop, which says it specialises in Afro Caribbean foods, was told that improvement was necessary for its cleanliness and condition of facilities. Both the hygienic food handling and management of food safety were rated ‘generally satisfactory’.
Jalaram Virpur Dham, a North Harrow restaurant on Imperial Drive, was visited on August 16 and also given a 2/5.
The cleanliness and condition of facilities required necessary improvement, while both the hygienic food handling and management of food safety were generally satisfactory.
Copper Kettle, in Bridge Street, Pinner was also told improvement was necessary on August 22.
Both the cleanliness and condition of facilities and management of food safety were found to be generally satisfactory. The hygienic food handling was ranked ‘improvement necessary’.
Coorg Kaapi in South Harrow Market was inspected on August 26 and received the same rating.
The cleanliness and condition of facilities required necessary improvement, while both the hygienic food handling and management of food safety were generally satisfactory.
Sweetbury’s Local, in High Street, Wealdstone, was also rated 2/5 on August 31.
The shop’s cleanliness and condition required necessary improvement. Both the hygienic food handling and management of food safety were considered ‘generally satisfactory’.
As of next month, the Harrow Times will begin to log inspections on a monthly basis so that readers can stay up-to-date with their favourite eateries.
Five is top of the scale, meaning the hygiene standards are very good and fully comply with the law, and zero is at the bottom of the scale, meaning urgent improvement is necessary.

On September 8, the shop was ranked ‘good’ and given a 4/5 rating.

Costa Coffee
Northolt Road
On September 9, the café was ranked ‘good’ with a 4/5 rating.

Eggfree Cakebox
Northolt Road
On September 12, the venue was found to be ‘good’ with a 4/5 rating.
Both the hygienic food handling and management of food safety were rated ‘good’ and the cleanliness and condition of facilities was given ‘generally satisfactory’.

On September 13, the venue was ranked ‘very good’ with a 5/5 rating.

One Stop Tropical Market

The shop was visited on September 14 was ranked ‘good’ with a 4/5 rating.

The Malaysian restaurant was inspected on September 14 and was found to be ‘very good’ with a 5/5 rating.

On September 21, the shop was rated ‘good’ with a 4/5 rating.

Best West Kebab & Pizza
Northolt Road
The kebab spot was inspected on September 21 and was considered ‘good’ with a 4/5 rating.
Both the hygienic food handling and cleanliness and condition of facilities were ranked ‘good’ and the management of food safety was ‘generally satisfactory’.
Lidl
High Street, Edgware
On September 22, the budget supermarket was rated ‘good’ with a 4/5.
Both the hygienic food handling and cleanliness and condition of facilities were ‘good’. The management of food safety was ‘generally satisfactory’.
Chilli Lovers
Honeypot Lane, Stanmore
On September 22, the Indian restaurant was ranked ‘very good’ with a 5/5 score.
