Road closures will likely last a week after roads were flooded and businesses were blocked off by a burst water main.
Flooding up to a depth of 30cm was reported between Locket Road and Masons Avenue in Wealdstone from the early morning yesterday (June 7).
Homes across the area were left without water and the London Fire Brigade assisted with the burst main.
Affinity Water says that “good progress” has been made in dealing with the aftermath, but road closures and diversions are likely to remain until next week.
At the moment Wealdstone High Street is closed both ways from Ellen Webb Drive to George Grange Way, traffic tracker AA Roadwatch reports.
Harrow Council says that adjustments are being made to the traffic to provide more access to the lower end of High Street and the car parks of Palmerston Road and Peel House.
Water storage levels are reported to be lower than usual and the water supplier has warned that customers may experience lower pressure at peak times between 4pm and 7pm and 6am and 9am.
A statement reads: “We're sorry for any disruption the road closures may cause and we'll be working around the clock to get everything back to normal as quickly as possible.”
Fire crews used sandbags to prevent further damage to shops and divert flood water, leaving the scene at 10.45am.
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Harrow, Stanmore and Northolt stations dealt with the flooding.
