Wetherspoons will continue to serve Harrow despite fears a pub would be sold and shut.
It’s good news for regulars in the town as The Moon on the Hill in Station Road, Harrow, will remain open.
The pub was one of nearly 40 Wetherspoons put up for sale last year after the chain warned it faced losing £30 million due to repair costs and rising staff wages.
In February, the Harrow Times reported that the pub was under offer and set to close permanently if the deal went through.
At the time, Wetherspoon spokesperson Eddie Gershon did warn that “offers can be pulled” – which appears was the case here.
The chain has now confirmed that the pub has been removed from the market.
Mr Gershon said: “Wetherspoon can confirm that The Moon on the Hill (Harrow) has been taken off the market and will continue to run as a Wetherspoon pub.
“The company is certain that the loyal staff and customers will be delighted with the decision.”
A local campaign group started a petition to ‘Save Our Spoons’ in what it called a bid to “help halt the decline” of Harrow high street.
When the future of The Moon on the Hill seemed dire, locals expressed their worry that the area will soon have no pubs.
One resident said: “I’m not very hopeful for that site. Nothing survives for long at that end of Harrow shops.”
A second said: “Harrow never seemed to be able to keep cocktail bars or nightclubs.”
