EVER fancied having a game of tennis against Pete Sampras or Anna Kournikova at Wimbledon? Well here's your chance and all you will need is your PlayStation2, a trusty controller and a copy of Namco's Smash Court Tennis Pro Tournament.
Whether you want to play alone or with a group of mates this game serves up the necessary goods for some great virtual tennis fun.
Smash Court allows you to choose from eight of the world's greatest players, including Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Martina Hingis and Anna Kournikova.
Alas there's no Henman or Rusedski but I did say world's greatest players didn't I, though it is a pity that there weren't more players to select from.
There are a host of different options to choose from, including a challenge mode to hone your skills, arcade mode for instant action, exhibition mode for up to four players and of course the tournament itself where you can compete in the major championships including the US Open and our very own Wimbledon.
The makers have made the game easy to play but have also introduced a significant amount of features that enable you to improve your skills as you become more accustomed to the game, which in turn makes the game enjoyable for novices as well as seasoned virtual tennis pros.
The graphics are very good with smooth and flowing animations.
Also, the main characters do resemble their real life counterparts.
The game's sounds are also good as they accurately capture all the grunts, groans and cheers of a grand slam event.
The multiplayer games were great fun.
However I found that after a while it became a little monotonous.
Smash Court Tennis is certainly a must for any true tennis fan but perhaps a rental for regular gamers.
Overall: 4 / 5
