A TEENAGE tearaway who almost killed himself while joyriding to get away from police has been jailed.
William Berry, 19, sped away from Harrow Police in a stolen car on May 9 when officers tried to pull him over during a routine burglary patrol.
He raced through the streets of Harrow to try to evade arrest before crashing and flipping the car in Mandeville Road, Northolt.
Berry, of Stanborough Avenue, Borehamwood, suffered a fractured skull, hip and collarbone, and was laid up in hospital for weeks after the crash.
Following a search of the wrecked car, which had been stolen in High Wycombe the week before and had false number plates, Harrow and Hampshire Police started a joint investigation culmination in his conviction.
Berry, who also goes by the name of Patrick Cassidy, was jailed on Monday, December 14, for a total of two years for a range of offences.
He was jailed for 15 months for aggravated driving, 15 months for dangerous driving, 12 months for aggravated vehicle taking and driving without insurance, and 15 months for burglary at Winchester Crown Court.
He was also handed a nine-month jail term for perjury, having previously lied during a previous court case.
