SOUTH Harrow is getting into a carnival mood for the Roxeth Show at the weekend.
The two-day show, in its 26th year, is again being organised by Harrow and Pinner Lions Club and will feature a host attractions.
It begins on Saturday, with the return of the parade through the streets which was a traditional feature of the events but which has not been held for the last five years.
About 150 children from primary schools in the area will be taking part in the parade, which be on the theme of a tropical island.
Wearing colourful costumes they will leave Welldon Park School in Wyvenhoe Road at noon and arrive at the showground in Roxeth Recreation Ground, off Kingsley Road, at 1pm.
The show, which runs from 11am to 5pm each day, will feature a display by "cowboys and Indians", a dog show, music, fairground rides, quad bikes, sideshows, charity and trade stalls, and a bar. Admission is free.
Martin Jenner, one of the organisers, said that a new park-and-ride scheme would make this year's show more accessible than ever.
"There is permit-only parking around the site and this has caused problems in previous years," he said.
"So this time, visitors will be able to leave their cars at Bovis House near the Waitrose store in Northolt Road and catch a free minibus to the park.
"There will be something there for all the family, so we hope everyone can join in and make it a great occasion with a real carnival atmosphere."
Harrow Council will have a stall, with officers answering questions about the New Harrow Project, recycling and other areas of concern to residents.
The Salvation Army band will be playing on Sunday, and the dog show will take place on the same day.
One of Harrow's most popular community events, the Roxeth Show is second only to the Harrow Show in August in size and range of entertainment.
The Lions Club took over its organisation in 1999 after the committee which had run it for 20 years was unable to continue and it was feared that the show would be abandoned.
