Leading Harrow councillors have expressed their joy at news of Norman Kember's release.
The peace campaigner from Pinner has been freed from captivity in Baghdad after nearly four months.
The Mayor of Harrow, Cllr Paddy Lyne said: "Our prayers have been answered. This is the news all of us in Harrow have been waiting for, particularly Norman's friends at Harrow Baptist Church. I am sure everyone in Harrow is overjoyed that Norman will soon be returning to his family, where he belongs."
Cllr Navin Shah, leader of Harrow Council, said: "This is absolutely fantastic news, something we have been waiting for for months. I'm sure every single person in Harrow has been praying for Norman's well being.
"I'm delighted for his family and we are looking forward to having Norman back in Harrow with his family where he belongs. I would also like to express my gratitude to members of Harrow Baptist Church for all the support they have given to Norman's family."
Cllr Chris Mote, leader of the Conservative group on Harrow Council, said: "Norman is a Pinnerite, and I'm delighted that he will be safely back with his Pinner congregation soon. He is dearly loved by those who know him and has been sorely missed."
Phiroza Gan, chairman of Harrow Interfaith Council, said: "It's a time to rejoice.
"I'm looking forward to seeing him but we must all give him time and space. If we all rush to him it won't help.
"I will hold back and give him time with his family. I'm glad he seem to be in good health. He is a resilient man but he is older than the other two captives so he will need rest.
"But I'm sure he will be working with the community in the future. I know he will want to - he is that sort of person."
