THE Lib Dems are claiming to have won Brent Central in one of the most fierce battles in North West London.
The count has not even begun at Brent Town Hall but campaigners have been watching ballot papers as they are verified by election staff and try to predict the result using specially designed software.
The Lib Dems are claiming a narrow victory for Sarah Teather, who held the Brent East seat before the boundaries were redrawn for this year's poll.
Labour are disputing the claims saying the margin of error involved in predicting the result is as big as the slim majorities the computer programmes are throwing up.
They say Dawn Butler, MP for Brent South under the old boundaries, cannot be ruled out of the game just yet.
The verification process has now finished and the count will begin shortly.
