GARETH Thomas has been re-elected as Labour MP for Harrow West.
He has been returned for another term of office with a majority of 3,143, beating Conservative challenger Dr Rachel Joyce.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Thomas declared the win as a “fantastic result” for the Labour Party in the face of a hostile national media, a difficult economic situation, and a Tory candidate he said had been boosted by funds from Lord Ashcroft.
Dr Joyce denied Ashcroft money had been plumbed into her campaign, but thanked the other candidates for a “decent” and keenly contested campaign.
Lib Dem Chris Noyce came in third in the poll, followed by UKIP candidate Herbert Crossman, and Green Rowan Langley.
The full results are below:
Gareth Thomas, Labour, 20,111
Rachel Joyce, Conservative, 16,968
Chris Noyce, Lib Dem, 7,458
Herbie Crossman, UKIP, 954
Rowan Langley, Green, 625
