A SOUTH Harrow Post Office could reopen in August after the company picked a new site for the store.

The branch was based in a shop on Northolt Road until it closed suddenly following a row with the owners last October, leaving residents traveling to Northolt or Harrow Town Centre instead.

Post Office Ltd plans to move it to Ganepathy Cash and Carry, around 200m away on Northolt Road, and has launched a consultation, which is due to end on June 29.

If residents support the proposals, the branch is likely to reopen at its new home in August.

Councillor Bill Stephenson, soon to be leader of Harrow Council, campaigned for the service to be brought back.

He said: “This is positive news and shows the power of the council and residents working together to safeguard their communities and the services they rely on.

“The council has lobbied the Post Office at the highest possible levels to ensure that services are reintroduced to South Harrow and we are really pleased that these proposals will now be consulted on.

“I would encourage all residents to have their say and I look forward to the summer opening of the new facilities.”

The branch would provide the same services as before, from 9am to 5.30pm, from Monday to Saturday.

The proposals would see it move to an open plan store with level access for people with wheelchairs as well as pay and display parking outside.

Cllr Stephenson said the council will continue to pursue talks with the company over post offices throughout the borough, particularly services at the branch in the town centre.
