I had the privelege of being invited to observe the workings of the Senior management team at Harrow Police Station and, finally, managed to attend their meeting yesterday. It was a highly confidential meeting. This team meets every morning and analyzes exactly what is happening all round our borough.
This was an excellent opportunity to observe, in real time, how our top team at Harrow Police works. The Borough Commander,Dal Babu, had kindly offered to allow some of us, to come by appointment, to one of his special morning meetings with his team and gain some insights into what goes on behind the scenes.
It has been very worthwhile and certainly enhanced my understanding of how these officers operate.I was made to feel very welcome by the Deputy Borough Commander,Superintendent Neil Vyse, who Chaired this meeting, lasting approximately 45 minutes.
We sat round a large table and many officers from different branches turned up to take part in the proceedings.Chief Inspector Nick Davies was most supportive.
Fotunately,as Chair of HPCCG and of the Rayners Lane Safer Neighbourhood Panel I am accustomed to attending and participating at Police meetings or Conferences. I have been working as a volunteer alongside the Police, for many years.I found the meeting really interesting, not least because it was in "real time" and not stage-managed.
I was pleasantly surprised that we were doing rather well on burglaries, compared to some of our neighbours, thanks to the considerable efforts made by our Police. It was great to see such a wealth of talent being pooled and suggestions being thrown into the ring,as each individual case was discussed. One almost felt sorry for the wrong-doers!What chance had they against an active team like this one.
I would higly recommend to those on the Harrow Police and Community Consultative Group, lucky enough to be invited to make sure they make full use of this chance to see the inner workings of the top team and get a better understanding of how our officers go about their daily business. It is certainly an education in itself.
Best of all was that each case was discussed and an ACTION TAKEN.Different officers were tasked with different jobs.Sharing ideas and know-how was high on their agenda. This must contribute to the success of the Harrow Police Senior management team.Definitely something many should experience.
My grateful thanks to Harrow Police for granting me such a wonderful opportunity to engage closely with them and enhance my knowledge.
