TWO-TIME British indoor rowing champion Daniel Ashworth powered his way to the medals at the National Championships of Great Britain in Strathclyde, Scotland, earlier this month.
The former Belmont Middle School pupil, who lives in Locket Road, Harrow Weald, and now attends Mill Hill High School, managed to win another two gold medals to add to his steadily growing list of achievements.
Daniel, who is in his first season of rowing on water, won the J14 Double Scull going there as National Schools Champion in this event with rowing partner Johnathan Williams.
Daniel sculls at Tideway Scullers School, by Chiswick Bridge, and has been training with his doubles partner, Jonathan, for the past two years Daniel had to pace himself well as he then had to go straight out in the J14 coxed Quad Sculls where the team was facing tough opposition. Holding its nerve along the course, the crew came from a length down in the final stages to win the race.
The quad was formed just a few weeks ago to race the National Championships so this win was really a remarkable achievement. Daniel and Jonathan had won the double scull event at the Junior Inter-regional Championships in May and then the Sommerville Cup presented to the winners of the J14 Double Scull at the prestigious National Schools Regatta, also in May.
Daniel's latest performance has meant that he has won medals at the last three major events that he has entered.
