On FRIDAY,26 NOVEMBER,I had the privelege of attending the BOROUGH COMMANDER'S COMMENDATIONS at the ZOROASTRIAN CENTRE in Rayners Lane,Harrow. This awesome listed building is a wonderful asset--part of our local heritage. I would like to thank their Chairman,Malcolm Deboo, for providing such a lovely venue, for a truly inspiring event.
It was really moving to see the family and friends gathered together, waiting for their loved one to be honoured, clapping with great joy.The pride felt was palpable.I suspect many had lumps in their throats, as they watched and cameras clicked away furiously to capture this momentous event.
The whole ceremony was conducted in a most humble and quiet manner---one felt like jumping up and telling everybody what these brave officers had done. Some had put themselves in harm's way, to save anothers'life--maybe that of a colleague or a member of public, with no thought given to their own safety! What an extraordinary bunch of people!!
The list of exploits was exhaustive.I found myself wishing for a written summary, with the officers names and photos to take home and mull over.We take so much for granted but these brave souls do whatever it takes to keep us safe and sound, 24/7.We miss all the action that goes on behind the scenes. It's high time we began to realise what Policing truly entails.
I sincerely hope the MET will start to make videos of such ceremonies to share with members of public at large which will help us all to appreciate their true worth.Policing is not just any old job!
Commendations were given to MET VOLUNTEERS for serving dutifully. We need many more volunteers and also a large number of SPECIAL CONSTABLES to boost our Police numbers.I expect Harrovians to generously join up and help keep our communities both safe and harmonious.
Among many who received Commendations, were officers from SPECIAL CRIME DIRECTORATE who had helped solve the high profile heinous murder of KUL HAWWADALEH ---a bright light prematurely extinguished, most brutally, at a petrol station last year.
One could see the pride stamped on the faces of the Senior management team, as they read out the Commendations, turn by turn, while our Borough Commander,DAL BABU,handed them out, with obvious pleasure.HE HAD EVERY REASON TO FEEL PROUD.
The proceedings ended with a tasty vegetarian buffet.I really enjoyed being there, to personally congratulate these brave officers and meet with their delighted family members. My warm thanks to Harrow Police for making me feel so much a part of the Police family.
It was an honour to meet with the HIGH SHERIFF of LONDON,Ranjit Mathrani, and have his support for this prestigious event.
On behalf of HARROW POLICE & COMMUNITY CONSULTATIVE GROUP and our public,I salute these brave officers and hope they will continue to inspire us with their acts of bravery,as they go about their daily rounds.Three cheers!!
WE HAVE EVERY REASON TO BE PROUD.
