BINGO players in Burnt Oak have scored a full house with a cancer charity by raising hundreds of pounds.
Customers and staff at the Mecca Bingo club on Burnt Oak Broadway raised £984 for Marie Curie Cancer Care by holding sponsored body waxes, party nights and cake sales, smashing their £750 target.
Pete Peart, club manager, said: “I’ve been so impressed with the drive and enthusiasm the team members have shown over the past year when it came to organising fundraising events at the club. The impressive result achieved goes to show just how hard everyone has worked.
“We also mustn’t forget that this impressive result is also down to our generous customers – we wouldn’t have been able to do this without them.
“We’re looking forward to continuing to support Marie Curie Cancer Care throughout 2011.”
The charity provides free nursing care for terminally ill people in local communities across the country, including at a hospice in Hampstead.
Community fundraiser, Claire Moss, said: “The way in which the members and customers at the club have embraced the fundraising challenge for Marie Curie Cancer Care has been fantastic.
“The wonderful amount raised will help make a difference to terminally ill people and their families. Giving more people the choice to spend their final days in their own home, the place they most want to be.”
