BRENT residents in Kenton taking part in a by election today have stressed the importance of voting.

Residents turned out to vote at polling stations across the ward this morning to elect a new councillor and cuts to service are a big talking point at the ballot box.

Gopal Patel, 63, of Kenton, said: “I want them to improve the services on the council which are not yet up to standard.

“There's a lot of potholes in the road.”

Suthaben Sunaria, 64, of Erbington Road, said: “I think it's very important to vote. I think it's the same old issues – education, national health and immigration and employment in youngsters as well.”

Robert Peter Dunwell, a former Queensbury councillor, is standing as an independent, while Chunilal Kalyanji Hirani represents the Lib Dems.

Suresh Kansagra is representing the Tories and Alan Mathison has been selected by the Green Party.

Eleanor May Southwood has been picked by Labour.
