A SCHOOL in Wembley is one of three Brent schools to expand to tackle the shortage of primary school places in the borough.

Preston Manor High School, in Carlton Avenue East, will take on 60 primary school pupils from September making it a 'through' school for all ages, if planning proposals are given the green light.

Proposals for the three expansions, which include Newfield and Brentfield Primary Schools, worth £15.2 million were approved on Wednesday by the council's cabinet committee.

Councillor Mary Arnold, cabinet member for children, said: "I am delighted by this decision - the expansion of these three schools will help provide more badly-needed school places for local pupils and increase parental choice.

“Brent is facing a very difficult situation because of soaring demand for primary school places but the council takes the issue very seriously and we are committed to doing everything we can to create more places for our young pupils.”

The expansion of the three schools will create an extra 840 extra primary places in the borough by September 2015.
