A YOUNG actor is starring in Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle's new stage production of Frankenstein at the National Theatre.
Jared Richard, nine, of Headstone Lane, North Harrow, plays Dr Frankenstein's brother William in the play which also features ex-Harrow School pupil and star of BBC TV show, Sherlock, Benedict Cumberbatch.
The play, directed by Danny Boyle whose films include 127 hours and Trainspotting, runs until April 19 at the National Theatre in South Bank, central London. Jared's performance will also be screened live from the theatre to cinemas around the world on March 24.
His father Kelvin said Jared was "absolutely delighted", as was his mother Susan who took him to the auditions.
He said: "It's a major achievement for someone so young.
"To be on stage with Benedict Cumberbatch is fantastic and we were surprised because Jared didn't think he'd done very well at the audition.
"Obviously Danny Boyle knows what he's looking for."
The pupil of Buckingham Preparatory School in Rayners Lane will alternate with two other young actors in the role.
