A “STUPID” boy racer whose reckless driving killed a Pinner teenager was handed a “pitiful” sentence, the victim's family say.

Alex Jaggs, 19, was so offended by the insulting gestures of a group 14-year-olds in May last year he aimed his Ford Fiesta Zetec towards them at speeds of up to 60mph, pulling away only at the last minute.

But his attempt at revenge ended in the death of front-seat passenger Jack King, a popular 17-year-old, of Cranbourne Drive, when he lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree in Elm Avenue, Ruislip.

Jaggs was handed a five-year jail term on Friday, but could regain his driving licence after his release if he passes the necessary tests.

Michele King, Jack's mother, said: “I don't think the sentence is anywhere near enough, for someone's life that is pitiful. It's as if Jack's life was meaningless.

“This was an accident or a tragedy waiting to happen. Unfortunately it was our son who got killed.”

Adam King, his father, said: “Jack had a bright future. Our sentence is forever. We've got a life sentence.

“It's just unbearable. No one in their right mind would do this. He drove the car on the wrong side of the road at these kids.

“One of these kids was a metre away. At the last minute he swerved the car so rapidly he lost control.”

Jack told him three times to “leave it” as the car sped towards the group of youths but Jaggs ignored him, and police put together testimonies from several people about other hair raising incidents on previous occasions.

But despite the horrific result of his stunt, in July 6 last year, just two months after Jack's death, he uploaded pictures from a Santa Pod race track onto social networking website Facebook.

Jack's relatives have still received no direct, personal apology from Jaggs or his family, the only signs of remorse coming from letters written to Southwark Crown Court ahead of sentencing on Friday.

Back seat passengers Olivia Stimpson and Andrew Heath were dealt serious injuries during the crash and both are still waiting for further operations.

Judge Gregory Stone, QC, told Jaggs on Friday: “You killed Jack King and you seriously injured Olivia Stimpson and Andrew Heath, and in doing that you have cause misery and distress to an even larger group of people, particularly Jack’s parents and brothers and sisters, and his wider family.

“What makes it even worse is that you were warned by Jack not to continue behaving in this stupid way, and you ignored him. Your actions were absolutely stupid, reckless and irresponsible.”

A police spokesman said: “In cases such as these the police would be looking to go into detail about a person's driving history and that can include tracing people who have previously been passengers in a car.

“In this instance a couple of people were traced who were able to give us information about previous inappropriate driving.”

Jaggs, of Eastcote Road, Ruislip, admitted causing death by dangerous driving.
