A TEENAGER has described the devastating moment she heard doctors pronounce her friend dead as she lay injured in the wreckage of a car crash.
Jack King was killed when Alex Jaggs lost control of his car during a “stupid” stunt to get back at a group of 14-year-olds who showed him insulting hand gestures in Elm Avenue, in Ruislip, in May last year.
Jaggs aimed the Ford Fiesta Zetec at the youths at up to 60mph, pulling away at the last minute but losing control and hitting a tree.
The force of the impact killed Jack instantly and threw his seat back, crushing 18-year-old Olivia Stimpson's leg.
She lay holding his body and it was an hour-and-a-half before they were finally cut free.
She said: “The first time I knew something was wrong was the snaking feeling. I felt like I was swaying in the back. The car was swerving.
“Jack did tell him to 'leave it', he said it three times but Alex just ignored him.
“Jack died instantly so it was nice that he didn't feel any pain at all that night. I was conscious throughout and I heard them pronounce him dead.
“That night just feels like a nightmare. If feels like a film scene. It just doesn't feel real. We have good memories of Jack and that's what we hold on to.”
She said she was given drugs on the roadside which left her feeling disconnected from what was going on around her but aware of what had happened.
She and Andrew Heath, also in the back seat were both dealt serious injuries to their legs, have had their education put on hold and need further operations even now.
More than 1,000 people mourned Jack's death through social networking website Facebook and his funeral was packed with grieving friends.
The former Northwood School and Kings Langley College student was popular and tributes left at the time of his death described him as a “bright star”.
