TEENAGERS from Harrow are among the country's top achieving state-school students.

Four pupils from St Dominic's Sixth Form College, in Mount Park Avenue, Harrow-on-the-Hill, received the UBS Award for Outstanding Students, given to only 100 youngsters nationwide, last Tuesday.

A-level students Atinuke Akinmolayan, Justine Buckmire, Emily Griggs and Saloni Joshi all achieved top grades in their AS exams, while also finding time to fit in voluntary work alongside their studies.

Sibyl Zao-Sanders, director of Pure Potential, the educational organisation which organised the awards, said it was difficult to choose the winner from hundreds of entries.

She said: “Pure Potential works with thousands of talented state school students each year.

"We are delighted to be working with UBS to celebrate the successes of young people who are not only making a huge difference to their families, schools and local communities, but also have excelled academically.

“It was a big challenge to select the final 100 and all nominees should be extremely proud of themselves.”

The students also got the chance to talk to employees from finance company UBS and learn more about their jobs.
