A TEENAGE cricket team has made it through to a youth games finals at Lord's after taking victory in the group stages.

Harrow boys team, who are made up of youngsters from state schools across the borough, secured their place in the London Youth Games Indoor Cricket finals with a tight win against Richmond in the qualifying stage.

Team manager Hervay Singchoda said: “I’m very happy – I’ve been manager for the last six years and we’ve won this competition twice, so it’s very good to qualify for the next round, it’s a good feeling.

“In the first game against Lambeth got 143 in ten overs which is very good, and we also got them out for 51.

“It was a big winning margin, which gave the boys some confidence for the next match against Hillingdon – which is always one of the hardest matches.

“We’ll have a few training sessions, and we’ll take some positives from today. We’ll have things to implement which we’ll do in the training sessions, running between the wickets, bowling straight, cutting down the extras, that sort of thing.

“It’s challenging but as long as we keep it simple and get the basics right, we will do alright.”

The London Youth Games is Europe's largest annual youth sports event and is funded by the national lottery.

The team will now get their chance to take the title at the iconic Lord's cricket ground on the weekend of July 2, starting with a quarter final match against Haringey.
