HARROW expects to be made a Fairtrade borough next month as a fortnight of ethical events kicks into gear.
To gain the coveted status an areas must tick a series of boxes, including having 33 retailers and 17 catering outlets offering up Fairtrade products.
Harrow Council believes it has already hit the mark but is waiting for official confirmation.
Fairtrade Fortnight, started on Monday, and schools, including Salvatorian College, are hoping to break records by making enough branded bunting to join Harrow and Brent town halls.
Richard Lyons, teacher at Salvatorian College, said: “We have been supporting Fairtrade Fortnight for the last three years.
“I feel that it is vitally important that young people are made aware of the inequalities that exist within our trade with developing nations.”
