THE suspension of an infants school headteacher is believed to relate to financial management, the Harrow Times has exclusively learned.

Sue Jones, head of Weald Infants School, in Robin Hood Drive, is being investigated and has been off work since January 25.

Sources have told the Harrow Times the probe is focusing on financial issues, although Harrow Council and the school's governing body have refused to comment on what sparked the intervention.

Suspension is a neutral act.

Keith Holroyd, chair of governors at Weald Infants School, said: “Our head teacher was suspended on January 25.

“An investigation is currently underway and I am unable to comment further until this is concluded.

“The assistant head Mrs Denise Doust is now leading the school and is being supported by the head teacher of Canon Lane First School, Dr Reena Keeble, who will be overseeing the school on an interim basis.”

Parents were told in January Miss Jones was “taking some time away from the school for personal reasons.”

A notice sent by Mr Holroyd says “it is not clear at this stage how long Miss Jones will be away” and adds: “I am very grateful to Dr Keeble for stepping in at this time and to the Governors and staff at Cannon Lane for accommodating this arrangement.

“Dr Keeble will be working with the school leadership team, staff and governors at Weald to ensure that the work of the school continues.”

The school's last Ofsted inspection rated it “good” and stated: “The headteacher provides strong leadership and her clear vision for the school is reflected in the common sense of purpose among staff and particularly within the management team.”

Councillor Stephen Greek (Cons/Harrow Weald) said: “This is being investigated very thoroughly and this is being dealt with very carefully by the governing body.

“I understand that the assistant head is looking after things and doing a very good job and that they've got support from the headteacher of another as well to help them along.”
