MORE than 200 people paid their last respects to entertainer Jack Seaton at his funeral held at a church in Harrow Weald last Friday.

The funeral service, conducted by Reverend James Mercer, was held at the All Saints Church, Uxbridge Road, as well-wishers remembered the work of the variety producer and member of entertainment industry charity, The Grand Order of Water Rats.

Mr Seaton grew up in Harrow Weald during the Second World War, attending Whitefriars School, in Whitefriars Avenue, and singing in the All Saints choir.

During his career Mr Seaton worked with variety theatre stars including Tommy Trinder and Joan Regan.

The congregation at his funeral included Jimmy Perry OBE who devised, and co-wrote with David Croft OBE, the World War Two comedy series Dad’s Army.

Tributes were read out from fellow Water Rats, Roy Hudd OBE, and Roger Rees with Welsh comedian, Wyn Calvin MBE, acknowledging Mr Seaton’s work on behalf of theatrical charities such as The Variety Artistes’ Benevolent Fund.

Other tributes acknowledged his work for the sea scouts and the Horse Rangers Association.

As a committee member of the Entertainment Artistes’ Benevolent Fund, Mr Seaton met with members of the royal family on formal occasions including in December when he met HRH The Prince of Wales, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall at the London Palladium for the 2010 Royal Variety performance.

Relative Graham Jenkins said: "Jack was always generous with his time and he would do anything for anybody. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

"He was a highly esteemed colleague.

"There were so many tributes on the day, with five tributes in person with also written and telephoned tributes."
