VOLUNTEERS working at a blind charity were thanked at a party with cream teas, music and singing at a community hall in Harrow yesterday afternoon.

The party, organised by The Harrow Association for the Blind was held at Northolt Community Hall, in Northolt Road, South Harrow.

Entertainment was provided by musician Ashley Wilkes and users of the charity joined in with staff to sing folk songs while enjoying home-made cakes and cream teas.

Fay Evangelou, 60, from Harrow, said: “Everything is absolutely wonderful and we all had a great afternoon.

“The warm hospitality we receive through this group is why we come here.

“I got blurred vision in 1988 and was registered blind in 1989. Coming here is very important as it gives me confidence and makes me realise I’m not the only one.

“This group gets me out and about, which is what I enjoy the most.”

Bella Stanmore, 90, from Edgware, has Age-related Macualar Degneration (AMD). She said: “I actually belong to the Macular degeneration disease society but have come along for this occasion.

“I lost my central vision through the disease and coming to groups like this helps me socially.”

Organiser Cristina Hind said: "It was a great success and the event was organised to thank all the volunteers that regularly help us out."
