PUPILS were evacuated this morning from a school in Stanmore after a bomb hoax.

Police were called about the bomb threat to Park High, in Thistlecroft Gardens, at around 9.45am.

A mother, who wished not to be named, said: "We're not sure what happened. I've just come to pick up my daughter and the kids were talking about it.

"I'm sure I'll find out later but it couldn't have been anything too bad as we would have heard about it sooner."

A father who was at the school to pick up his two sons said: "Who would do that? Just phoning up the school and saying that.

"All the parents are hearing about it now."

School headteacher Emlyn Lumley said:

"We received a call claiming there was a bomb on the school site at about 9.45am this morning.

"We have a procedure in place to deal with such situations and within minutes the police arrived and pupils were evacuated to Centenary Park.

"Staff and the police searched the building but found nothing. When the building was ruled safe, at 10.30am, pupils returned to the school and lessons continued as normal.

"At no point were any of our pupils or staff in danger and the matter is now being dealt with by the police."

A metropolitan police spokesman said: “There were reports of a bomb threat in the school. It was ultimately deemed to be a hoax.”
