Abseiling for St Luke's, Welcoming the Mayor, The Cube and good arrests

PCSO Radford has also been active in arresting some of Harrow’s most wanted criminals. Having seen the picture of a wanted offender during her morning briefing, PCSO Radford recognised the individual and was able to provide his address details and an arrest was made. The subject has since been charged with a Harrow burglary and has been remanded pending a court trial.

We welcomed The Mayor of Harrow, Councillor Asad Omar on a visit to Greenhill Ward. After being given a tour of the front counter reception at Harrow Central Police Station, Peterborough Road, The Mayor discussed policing issues with Greenhill SNT and was invited out on patrol taking the opportunity to speak to members of the public and discuss their concerns. Some of you may have noticed three similar looking police Inspectors outside the Cube in St Ann’s Road in the town centre on Friday 4 March. Eyes were not deceiving you; there were two cardboard cutouts and one real. On the first Friday of every month, I will be outside The Cube to discuss with you any policing issues or concerns that you may have and look forward to having the opportunity to discuss with you the matters that are most important to you. It was good to speak with so many on the day and I was surprised at the wide variety of policing questions asked. It certainly shows that you are passionate about policing in Harrow and although this was the first such event I hope with time that this becomes a regular feature in your diary – the first Friday of each month between 12-2pm. A criminologist might say that a police officer will only come across a criminal, in the act of committing an offence, only once in their career. Well, PC Tom Stagg is the exception as he has come across two incidents in as many months! Having arrested a suspect of robbery during the Harrow Council Christmas carol singing event last year in the town centre, Tom came across another suspect whilst patrolling around the rear of the Safari Cinema in Station Road, with PC Jeanette Burrows from the Greenhill SNT. The male sprinted off as the officers approached; both officers gave chase and the male was caught nearby and found to be in possession of a quantity of drugs. I hope to keep you informed on the individual’s sentence following his court appearance.

The Headstone South Safer Neighbourhoods Team has been active in and around the area of Ford Close following several calls from concerned residents with regard to high levels of anti-social behaviour (ASB) from a particular resident. The research by Sergeant Claire Ginger and the team concluded that drugs were suspected to be held on the premises which were the catalyst for late night parties and unsocial behaviour. I am pleased to say that SNT officers have visited the address and, together with Harrow Council ASB Team, an acceptable level of behaviour has been discussed with the occupants. In addition Headstone South SNT is working with the Harrow Council Environmental Team to clean up the estate in general and remove graffiti and long-term litter. Sergeant Claire Ginger increased the visible patrols of her team and has spoken with a local church to try and establish a local youth club within the church hall.

Finally, much thanks, to all of those staff from Harrow Council who supported a cake sale in the Civic Centre which raised over £1,000 for the son of a Wealdstone officer who was recently injured in Afghanistan where he was serving with the Parachute Regiment. In particular, special mention to Bharti Jethwa from Harrow Council Community and Environment services and PCSO Wendy Ladyman for their organisational and most importantly, their cake-baking skills.
