A GROUP of Afghan children and their mothers went on a trip to the Houses of Parliament with their school this week.
Harrow High School, in Gayton Road, organised the expedition to Westminster on Wednesday as part of a group being run for parents from the Middle Eastern country.
The aim was to make the families feel part of the community.
Salma Assadi, who organised the trip, said: “The mothers gained knowledge and an understanding of the work of Parliament.
“It also gave them an opportunity to see an important landmark of the country they are a part of.”
She added: “Because of the language barrier often Afghan mothers feel isolated, with my help as an interpreter I am hoping they will feel part of a community.”
The group holds sessions every Thursday from 4pm to 5pm.
