TRANSPORT for London has apologised after a train derailed in Wembley causing chaos early this morning.
The Metropolitan Line was suspended going south from Harrow-on-the-Hill to Finchley Road for around 25 minutes after the problem at 5.50am.
A mistake by the driver caused the empty train to derail as it moved in sidings in Wembley.
Tracey O'Brien, a spokesman for TfL, said: “This is a part of track where there are no passengers and where trains move at very low speeds.
“No-one was injured and all of our safety systems worked exactly as they should.
“Engineers attended and worked quickly to restore service to the line. The line resumed at 6.15, and is now back to good service.
"We apologise to passengers for the inconvenience this caused. The incident was caused by driver error, and our safety systems worked correctly in preventing the train from leaving the sidings.
“We stress that no passengers were involved or endangered during the incident.”
