HUNDREDS of Indian cricket fans threw a spontaneous party in Queensbury as their country won an age old rivalry against Pakistan yesterday.

Flags, fireworks and victory chants filled the air as people poured from the restaurants and bars of Queensbury circle following a 29-run win in the World Cup semi final.

Navin Sharma, a director of The Regency Club, said: “The atmosphere was electrifying. Everybody was queuing up from around 7.15am.

“Everyone was in very good spirits. It's impossible to describe the scene when India won but there was so much cheering, so much clapping. It's beyond words.”

Abhimanyu Paudel, manager of The Regency Club, said: “We had two dhol drummers playing inside which added to the atmosphere.

“Then at around 6.15pm finally India won the match and everyone was outside on the green celebrating.

“They were playing drums and there were fireworks, they were cheering. It lasted for about three hours.”

The police confirmed there were no incidents during the festivities, which mainly took place on the green opposite Queensbury tube station.

The club is now preparing for India's final against Sri Lanka on Saturday, when it will open at 8.30am with security on the door in case emotions get overheated.

Mr Paudel said he thinks India will take the glory.
