KENTON residents are losing pounds but saving money by getting a free workout at an outdoor gym at a park.

A new outdoor gym has opened in Kenton Recreation Ground and includes a double station surfer, leg press and chest press, a skier, horseback rider and multi-station body twister.

Residents and members of the Kenton Adventure Park Management Committee were among the first to put it to the test at an event organised by Harrow Council yesterday..

Pravim Haria, 67, of Brampton Grove, uses the outdoor gym everyday. He said: “I’m very active. I swim and do yoga and tai chi. I also walk in the park everyday and it’s great to have something new to do here.

“It seems very popular. I’ve been using the equipment for 15 minutes everyday and I think it’s excellent. It’s a lovely park and it’s nice to be able to exercise with such beautiful views.”

The council's portfolio holder for environment and community safety at Harrow Council, Councillor Phillip O’Dell, said: “We all know that taking regular exercise is important and this new outdoor gym means that anyone wanting to get fit this summer does not need to fork out for expensive gym membership.

"Instead they can work out for free while enjoying the fresh air and views of their local park."
