AN ARMY corporal from Harrow has shared his experiences of working in Afghanistan as he prepares to return to the UK.
Corporal Ieuan Guest, 29, is currently serving with the RAF Police in Helmand, Afghanistan. Mr Guest, a former Rooks Heath High School, in South Harrow, joined the RAF Auxiliaries in 2009.
He now works as part of the RAF Force Protection team, who are tasked with providing security for the main operating base at Camp Bastion and for the small Afghan settlements and community that lives outside the base.
Mr Guest is approaching the end of his tour and having arrived in October last year he will return to the UK in May.
He said: “I have enjoyed the variety of interesting and differing tasks over the last six months both inside and outside of Camp Bastion.
“Highlights included providing close protection for the Prime Minister and Prince Andrew.
“However, the most enjoyable moments have been during meetings with the locals, who have always been friendly and genuinely pleased to see us.
“While I have enjoyed my time in Helmand I am really looking forward to getting back home to see my wife Lianne and son Jacob, who is only 18 months old.”
