THE Harrow Times news team is among St George's Day hopefuls gearing up for Pinner's wheelbarrow pub crawl this Bank Holiday Monday.

Reporters Suruchi Sharma and Tristan Kirk will race through the streets of Pinner for the annual event to celebrate St George’s Day.

The village will be closed to traffic on Monday, April 25, for a day of festivities, starting in the morning with a farmer's market in the car park of the Queen's Head pub.

The annual celebrations are a highlight of the Pinner calendar, and feature the traditional wheelbarrow race at 3pm when teams of two sprint through the streets downing pints of ale at six designated stops.

The day will include a range of festivities including a farmers market in the Queens Head Pub in the morning and performances by morris dancers throughout the day.

Organiser Gordon Williams said: “We hope to continue this tradition for many years to come.

“There is always doubt about funding but we hope to carry on as we have a unique day every year.

“I don’t think there is a wheelbarrow race held anywhere in the country. Councillors, council officers and police have been very, very supportive and planning so far has been going like a dream.”
