HARROW Sea Cadets took to their bikes this weekend on a fundraising trip from London to Brighton.

Nine cadets, four staff and one parent cycled on Saturday to raise money for the cadet unit.

PC Tom Galvin, from the Metropolitan Police, visited the cadets to run through safe cycling and hand signals and guided the cadets on some practice rides.

The rides were 18 miles in preparation for the 60 mile journey to Brighton.

Officer in charge of the unit, Darren Chambers, said: “It was a long day in temperatures as high as 27 degrees and setting off at five past seven in the morning from Clapham Common, and with an average speed of not less than 10 miles per hour excluding rest stops, we reached Brighton at about 4.40pm, after which the cadets cooled off in the sea.

“At present we do not know the final total raised, as we are waiting for more forms to come in, but it is at least £1000 so a big thank you to all who gave generously.”
