A COUNCILLOR has said he will potentially stand down if elected for another seat in his place of residence at next week’s elections.

Councillor Mark Versallion (Conservative), was elected for Stanmore Park at last year’s elections and is standing as a district councillor for Central Bedfordshire Council on May 5.

He has a position as a non-executive director at North-West London Hospitals NHS Trust.

He was brought on to the board for his experience as managing director of marketing company VML Ltd, based in Harrow, and for his knowledge having sat as a councillor since 2002.

The board oversees Northwick Park St Mark's, and Central Middlesex Hospitals.

Council leader, Councillor Bill Stephenson (Labour), said: “I’m really quite surprised he has put himself forward for a seat elsewhere.

“It is possible of course to stand there if the person has a proper residential qualification.

“He lives quite a long way from his constituency and if he is elected I wonder if he can cover both areas.”

Cllr Versallion said: “Being a councillor is a part-time role. We will have to see after May 5 what will happen. I have to get elected first.

“I’ve said consistently that I will be guided by the association as to what to do but I would stand down if advised to do so.

“I’ve given a significant amount of my life to public service and spent over 20 years of my life in the area, buying my first house, getting married and spending my formative years in Harrow.

“I would be sad to stand down but I have to wait for the election result and then see what I am advised to do.”
