A MAJORETTE group in Stanmore won a string of awards at a national championship.
Six members from the Attwirlettes, based at Culver Church, in Culver Grove, attended the United Kingdom Federation of Majorettes (UKFM) National Championships, held at Pontins, Camber Sands, in East Sussex, last month.
The group is a majorette and baton twirling troupe, which was set up in March 2008 by Natalie Attwell, 20, in order to pass on the skills she has been learning since she was five-years-old.
She said: “After a very busy but enjoyable week, we were rewarded with various prizes of first and second places, meaning a number of our members are now national champions, which I am extremely proud of.
“We have all done exceptionally well this competition season, winning many first, second and third places as well as qualifications to the nationals.
“My majorettes have been quite simply fantastic.”
The group includes boys and girls from the age of four upwards.
Miss Attwell added: “I have been a majorette for 15 years and love teaching the girls and boys, along with my sister, Vanessa, who has been twirling for 13 years.
“It’s lovely to lead such a dedicated team that works so hard and tries their best while always having fun and offering each other friendship and support.
"I’m delighted with the progress they have made and continue to make and we are always looking for new budding twirlers.”
