RELIGIOUS devotees held a peace march this afternoon from Wembley to Ealing in the wake of violence across London.
A group of Hare Krishna devotees from Bhaktivedanta Manor, based in Aldenham, Hertfordshire, held a parade prior to the march from Brent Council town hall, in Forty Lane.
Peace marchers then met at the Shree Sanatan temple, in Ealing Road, Wembley where a team of about 40 Hare Krishna devotees marched with a decorated peace chariot towards Ealing High Street reaching there around 7pm. The procession will move on to Southall later this evening.
The High Street in Ealing was subject to mobs torching buildings and cars, looting shops and breaking into homes on Monday night.
The march was organized by Hare Krishna devotee Peter O’Grady. He said: “We believe there is no point sitting on the fence and this is our small contribution towards helping people get over the events of the past few days.
“We’ve had a great response with cars hooting and people waving in support. It’s very encouraging and shows people want to carry on in peace and have no more of the riots we have had.
“Going through the areas such as Wembley and Ealing we feel the tension that residents feel and what they have been through. People have been frightened to go out at times.
“We wanted to do something that would help people to feel calm and have been chanting as we passed through the areas. We don’t anything that happened around here to happen again.”
