ARMISTICE DAY,Friday,November 11,turned out to be a memorable one indeed.I had the proud privelege of attending and meeting with the families and recepients of special awards given by our Borough Commander,Chief Superintendent DAL BABU,to those who had served our public in a manner deserving such recognition.
This special, ceremony was held at the St ALBANS CHURCH in North Harrow and was well attended.Superintendent NEIL VYSE and Chief Inspector NICK DAVIES both read out the names and told us of the heroic deeds performed by these wonderful people as they walked up proudly to receive their certificates from their boss.
These men and women had gone the extra mile, unmindful of their own safety,to meet whatever challenges they encountered--be it serving under huge pressure in the thick of the London riots this summer,or locally on our home-ground.No challenge seemed too great for them.We are very fortunate to have officers of this calibre in our midst.Their families were positively bursting with pride as the proceedings unfolded.I spoke with some of them afterwards and realised how much attending this ceremony meant to them.
RICHARD TAYLOR,father of Damilola Taylor, who had died in a tragic knife stabbing some years back, was chief guest. He was extremely pleased to have participated and congratulated all recepients very warmly.I have known him for a long time, since Damilola's death, and greatly admire his contribution to the campaign against knife crime ever since.
The whole Church was charged with positive vibes. We observed a minutes silence to mark Armistice Day and honour the memory of so many who gave up their lives for their country.
All in all it was a very moving experience.I hope we will get to see and hear more about these special folk and express our deep gratitude for going above and beyond the call of duty.
