Thank you Harrovians for not only attending our ANNUAL GENERAL meeting at short notice,on JANUARY 23,but also for the warmth of your support. The entire management team was deeply touched by the manner in which you stood up to the MOPC representative and expressed your huge disappointment that having taken away HPCCGs funding, thereby causing them to disband, they had no other properly organised group up and running to continue where we had left off. That caught them totally off guard!
You all deserve the best possibe deal and WILL get it.Thank you for your kind words and generous comments for the ten years I had the privelege to Chair this group and serve you all.Let us hope I will be able to keep serving to the best of my ability and do whats in your best interests, for a long while yet.Hats off to you all for the loyalty you have clearly demonstrated.Long may that live!
We not only presented our accounts for this financial year, agreed and signed them off publicly, but also heard your expressions of deep gratitude and appreciation for our dedicated works, over several years, striving to make our borough one of the safest in London.Of course we did this with important partners,in particular the hard-working Harrow Police and our local Authority,to whom we owe so much.
Your fantastic support has made it all worthwhile. Its such a shame, even at such a time, we had Cllr Hall trying her best to muddy the waters and take away from everything we had done over so many long years with your good help.Without you,we could have done so little. What came across powerfully was that none of you wanted us to go..So,we have asked the MOPC to look into this matter for us.Let see where this leads to.
Please have open minds and lets re-build our engagement very effectively. We cant afford to let it be blown away by self-seekers.Let us ensure party politics are strictly kept OUT so that we can get on with policing works and making our local cops robustly accountable.Crime fighting and prevention must take priority over all else.Of course,we all must make sure we are good citizens and even greater Harrovians.
The Commissioner is dong his best to rejuvenate and update many of the Metropolitan Police's well-known projects.Take Stop and Search and also the Anti-Terrorist Hotline. Then there's the launch of the Special Commands against Gangs in London. It all takes alot of hard work ,planning and implementing. As ever,we rely on you to please do your duty and help your Police with any information which might help either prevent or solve a crime.
You must continue to work alongside your Safer Neighbourhood Teams and make your contribution such that we all benefit.
Whatever the outcome of our discussions with the MOPC,rest assured,we will soon be having our community engagement back on track. Its a matter which needs careful consultation and sensitive handling since it concerns not just our safety but also the harmony we have sought so hard to establish and nurture in our borough. Many would give their right arm to have a record like ours.
It is your duty and mine ---every single one of us--to help our local cops to fight crime in any way we can.You might wish to join local Safer Neighbourhood Panels or even become a Neighbourhood Champion. The Police always want Volunteer Cadets and also Volunteer Special Constables. Please contact your local Sergeant for more details.Everyone can play their part,no matter how large or small.
We have a community engagement meeting booked for Monday,March 19 ,in the Council Chamber from 730pm.Please look for annoucements nearer the date in your local papers. The Borough Commander of Harrow,Dal Babu, and Chief Inspector Russell Hughes are keen to ensure our community engagement remains on track exactly as before.
We will not allow our people to suffer on account of petty politics. There is no question of compromising on matters of such importance. Its high time the MOPC (Mayors Office of Policing and Crime) realised Harrovians will not be fobbed off with anything but the best. HARROW DESERVES IT.
Look forward to seeing you all and to setting up very effective community engagement with you all once more.
