It is so good to know that our brave Police officers who worked round the clock and performed so well that Harrow was riot-free last August, have received Commendations from the Commissioner himself. What a proud achievement and a memorable day that must have been for all their families and friends too.Recognition of this sort is definitely a good way to spur them on.We salute their efforts which went above and beyond the call of duty. Many hardly had time to sleep or take any leave but just got on with the job in hand.
Paying tribute to the memory of those officers whom we lost over the past three years is a sobering reminder of the dangers and difficulties a cop may encounter every single day as he/she goes about their daily rounds. No two days are the same and none can be sure they will not encounter life-threatening situations and literally put themselves in harm's way to keep us safe.We humbly offer our gratitude and respect what they are expected to carry on doing day in and day out.We tend to take them for granted but must learn to value their tireless efforts to serve and protect us.
The introduction of ten Street Pastors in Harrow is a very welcome move and has worked extremely successfully in challenging boroughs in other parts of London. It's good to know we are building initiatives into our policing which will help enhance the service already performed by our officers who are often over-stretched.This is a tried and tested initiative which has helped many communities and been excellent in mobilising youth and improving communication , bringing enhanced outcomes for our borough. Its like an insurance policy of sorts, to keep trouble at bay.Very popular with community members, especially the youth.
Harrow Council has just introduced a golden number and is trying to promote early intervention in Children's services ---a very welcome move since our children, young people and their families often find themselves in situations which could have been avoided if they had received timely help and support from a range of partners, all working towards the same goal.A much better, seamless service, with early intervention at the core, will surely help bring good dividends.
Similarly, elderly folk will be looked after in a manner which should help them feel valued and avoid the feeling of isolation and loneliness which can be such a killer! We need to garner their experience and incorporate some of them to enrich our society.
Its great to see Harrow is starting to address both ends of the spectrum and is looking at innovative ways to help vulnerable youth as well as our senior citizens. One hopes,in due course, these and many more initiatives will make our policing our borough a real pleasure and serve our citizens admirably.
