Drivers in Wembley can breathe a sigh of relief this morning as Olympic games lanes went out of operation.

The Olympic traffic-only routes in most of the A406 North Circular Road between the junctions with Hanger Way and Great Central Way, which carried fines of £130 for ‘ordinary’ motorists who strayed into them, ended at midnight.

Special parking restrictions around Wembley Stadium and all games lanes road markings will be removed by Thursday morning, Transport for London said.

Nearly 2,500 drivers were handed fines for straying into the lanes during the Olympic Games, with £312,000 paid to TfL in total, figures show.

There are no plans to reintroduce them for the Paralympic Games, with a much less extensive network of restrictions based mainly in the east of London from August 29.
