A student who created a set of light-up costumes worn by Brazilian performers in the Olympics closing ceremony says it was an experience she will “remember forever”.

Middlesex University graduate Puja Varsani, of Rayners Lane, was part of a team of seven who worked to integrate lights and electronic effects on 140 of the costumes used by performers in the section of the show dedicated to 2016 host city Rio de Janeiro.

The ceremony, which was watched by 26.3million people in the UK and millions more worldwide, included Amazonian warriors, whose costumes were made from scratch by the team.

The students also made illuminated headdresses, capes, wheels and 80 drums to be used during the performance.

Puja said: “We had a brilliant team and worked very well together. 

“When we started on the project it hadn’t really sunk in that we would be part of the closing ceremony, but as we drew closer it all became real. 

“It was an absolutely brilliant experience which I’ll remember forever.”
