A disabled man was rescued from his Pinner home by firefighters last night after a blaze engulfed his kitchen.
The 74-year-old man, his wife, and their daughter were all been taken to Northwick Park Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation after the fire in Nower Hill at just before midnight, which damaged the entire house.
Firefighters said the woman had been reluctant to leave her husband after the fire started in the kitchen of the house, and crews entered the burning building to rescue him.
The rest of the property was saved from severe damage after the kitchen door was shut on discovery of the fire, which is believed to have been started accidentally in the kitchen.
Watch manager David Donaghey, who was at the scene, said: “Our crews did very well with what was a challenging situation.
“We had to rescue the elderly gentleman and his wife before tackling the fire, as opening the kitchen door would have flooded the house with poisonous smoke.
“Fortunately, no one was severely hurt and the fire damage was limited to a small part of the kitchen.”
It took approximately 15 firefighters half an hour to bring the blaze at the house, which did not have smoke alarms fitted, under control.
